Justin Ray, Attorney

I was raised in the High Country of North Carolina. I graduated from Avery County High School. I attended Mayland Community College in Spruce Pine, NC. While at Mayland I was a Captain of the basketball team and a math tutor for all levels of math classes. After receiving an associates in science I attended Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. I majored in criminal justice and I also received a minor in Computer Information Systems. After receiving my bachelors degree I accepted a job for a financial services corporation in San Diego, CA. After working a few more years in different locations I decided to move back to my hometown of Newland, NC.

I started my own business in Newland and operated the business for 4 years before deciding to go back to law school. During law school I spent 2 years on the mock trial team for the school where we tried multiple civil cases before panels of practicing lawyers and judges. I was a finalist in the school moot court competition where we argued a case before many of the members of the Virginia Court of Appeals. I served as a Senior Editor of the Law Review. I completed two externships in the District Attorney’s office where I got to practice my skills, argue motions and was part of an innocence inquiry in North Carolina. I graduated cum laude in 2019 and sat for the North Carolina Bar Exam in July 2019. After passing the bar exam I decided to open High Country Law.

I am married and have two wonderful children. My wife of 15 years is the glue that holds our hectic lifestyles together. Our children are involved in community service and sports. We enjoy the outdoors, hiking, fishing, hunting and other outdoor activities when we get time. We are members of Open Door Baptist Church in Cranberry, NC.
